“I saw that.” — Karma

If you’ve gotten engaged, and you are planning your wedding, at some point you are going to have to have a phone call or in-person meeting with the person whom you are considering hiring to officiate your wedding. You will also have to accept that karma is real and that you should do what you can to make sure your own karma is immaculate.

Chances are, you’ve never been married before, but even if you have, you can always use a good refresher on how to treat a professional in a respectful manner. Interviews with Officiants are a curious thing. They are not as formal as job interviews even though that is exactly what they are. The officiant is also deciding if he or she is a good match for you, meaning, he is deciding whether he wants to spend several months of his life working on something for you. He wants to know you are not douchebags just as much as you want to know that he’s not a douchebag. He wants to know you are serious about what you are doing by getting married but he also wants to know that you are not going to treat him like some low-level hired help. A basic tenet of karma is to treat others the way you would like to be treated, unless you are a masochist or a passive-aggressive buzz kill.
